Gartley Street School is located at 19 Gartley Street in Lisbon, Maine.  GSS is a learning campus that encompasses three, non traditional learning environments.

  • K-12 Day Treatment Program - Special Education

  • 11-12 Alternative Education Program

  • Adult Education

The Day Treatment Program operates as the most restrictive environment for the Lisbon School District.  The program supports students with diagnosed behavioral needs.  The staff are certified Behavioral Health Professional, Education Technicians and Safety Care Specialists.  Social Workers provide trauma focused therapy, CBT and DBT techniques, along with the implementation of behavior plans, crisis plans and individual treatment plans.  The program is highly structured with a points and levels system, tangible and non tangible reward based incentives and specialized instruction strategies.  Social emotional standards are embedded within the program and are the primary focus for treatment.  Our long term goal is to have students return to the mainstream setting with coping skills, social emotional intelligence and strategies to be a successful citizen in society.

The Alternative Education program is for 11th and 12th graders who are more successful in a non traditional school setting.  The program focuses on small classroom instruction, expeditionary learning, real world curriculum and social emotional intelligence.  Classes that are offered, but are not limited to: Adulting, Real World Math, Habits of Work, Lit-Blogging, Aquatic Studies, Bicycle Repair, Cooking, and Career and College Prep.  All courses meet the 21st Century Learning Framework, Common Core Standards, and incorporate Lisbon School based essential standards.  In addition, we provide our own GSS Online Course program.  GSS Online Courses are 6 weeks, that requires a discussion post due every Tuesday and an assignment due every Thursday.  The GSS Online Courses provide credits and credit recovery for students in need.  Moreover, it provides a mimicking effect of an online college course for students to prepare for the unavoidable technology based learning.
